This Indesit Washer Dryer scraps the bells and whistles whilst retaining a first rate washing and spinning performance

If you hate modern appliances with 'a load of faff' then this Indesit Advance IWDD7143S Washer Dryer is the one for you: it has a control panel, with all the cycles listed and dials/buttons clearly labelled in black font.

However, despite its user friendly nature, this Indesit Washer Dryer still has some really interesting features such as a maximum wash capacity of 7kg and dry capacity of 5kg, a powerful 1400rpm spin speed, and a delay start timer, which enables you to set the cycle to begin when you need it to, like at night, for example.

The cycles, of which there are 13, include white cotton, silk/curtains and express wash&dry.

It also boasts an energy rating B, for great efficiency, and a performance rating A for both washing and spinning.

The Indesit Advance IWDD7143S Washer Dryer: helpful, powerful and efficient, but also user-friendly.

Due to the larger capacity of modern washer dryers some machines have now become quite bulbous and may not always fit flush under a worktop. The depth dimension excludes all protruding control knobs, door and handle and all pipe work from the rear of the appliance.

Useful InformationLike most modern washer dryers, this one is cold fill only. Some older washer dryers also have a hot water intake, but in reality, little hot water ever gets into these machines on most washes. This is because hot water cools rapidly in household water pipes, and by the time it starts to run hot the washing machine has almost finished filling. This is particularly true nowadays because modern washing machines use a lot less water than ever before.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent washer-dryer I'm really happy with my Indesit IWDD7143S Washer Dryer. It's simple to use and does the job. The thirty five minute express wash is my most used, ideal for small loads, and a forty minute dry cycle is plenty for these loads which keeps the usage costs down. Only small gripe is a very noisy spinner which I've seen other comment on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Read on!! There is nothing actually wrong with the machine but if I'd have know that a cycle of washing and drying takes 5 hours and may still not be dry at the end of it, I wouldn't have purchased it. The tumble dryer makes a "banging" noise when it's on resulting in a loud clunking which means that you can't have it on at night time. Next time around I shall be purchasing a separate washer and tumble dryer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent service Excellent service from Marks office. Disappointed that the delivery team would not fit the 3 pin plugged machine to the wired Wall plate as to cut the plug off would ' invalidate the warranty' . Had to change it ourselves. Not sure installation charge justified. However have recommended Marks to my cousin who is moving so hope she gets a full installation service in her new house.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great washer - poor dryer This was the best value for money washer dryer we could find. However like most "all in one" gadgets it doesn't function as well as separate units. The dryer takes twice as long as a conventional dryer!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works fine but not very well thought out It washes fine and it dries clothes so you could say, "What more do you need from a washer/dryer?" Well, you might have a point but ease of use would be nice. The manual is rubbish as are most manuals these days. It does not explain stuff in sufficient detail for instance it tells you there is a button to change the spin speed. There are two options, a fast spin and a slow spin but it doesn't tell you if pressing the button in gives you the fast or slow option! So, zero points for the manual. Next the dials. first you have to have very good eyesight to read what is printed on them and second, you have to have a fantastic sense of touch to be able to feel which way around the dial is facing. The dials consist of a lozenge switch which you turn to the setting you want but both ends of the lozenge are the same except for a very faint raised mark on one end. Get it the wrong way around and you won't get the program you were expecting. There are three dials like this and all are the same. One the drying dial you can select a handful of preset times or go for cupboard dry, Iron dry and something else. These last three settings are a waste of time because they all dry the clothes to an absolute crisp. This is not explained at all in the manual. There is a setting to wash training shoes on but this is just a gimmick because I put a pair in there and ran this cycle twice but they still came out with some mud on the soles; not that they were overly muddy when I put them in. Last, and this really niggles me, once you start the machine, although there is a pause button, you can't open the door to add anything you have forgotten even if it hasn't taken on much water. You have to drain it which takes ages, before you can open the door. I didn't have that problem with either of my my previous machines. On the plus side, it's quiet and reasonably quick.
